ClassifyIt 7.0:
classify, protect and share.
Bring classification and file protection together in the Office applications your team already uses. Version 7.0 adds CI-TDF document exchange, OpenSSL cryptography and structured iCLASS metadata to your everyday workflow.

What's new in 7.0
Your classification travels
with your content.
A visible marking tells people how to handle information. Version 7.0 brings that marking together with structured metadata and a verifiable file container, making it easier to exchange documents without losing their classification context.
Export directly to CI-TDF
Package a saved Word document, Excel workbook or PowerPoint presentation from the Crypt It menu. Import restores the document and its classification from the verified container. Outlook protects attachments in the same file format.
Built on OpenSSL
Encrypted payloads use AES-256-GCM. Certificate mode supports elliptic-curve and RSA recipient keys; PIN mode offers password-based access. Integrity verification checks the container before imported content is opened.
Structured iCLASS information
Keep the visual labels your organisation needs while recording originator, classification and release codes in machine-readable form. The same structured information supports document properties, email headers and CI-TDF manifests.
Make recipient-based exchange easier
Manage your identity and imported public certificates in one window. Share your public certificate as a signed .crt.tdf package. Certificate exports automatically include the sender, so you can reopen the files you send.
Classify individual paragraphs Beta
Version 7.0 includes beta support for individual paragraph markings in Word, alongside the overall document classification. Evaluate it in controlled test environments; keep it disabled for production use.
From document to recipient
Three steps. Inside Office.
Apply your policy
Select the classification and release markings, or use a personalised Quick Select shortcut.
Choose how to share
Export the document or protect email attachments. Select the mode appropriate for the exchange.
Keep the context
The recipient imports or decrypts the container. ClassifyIt verifies integrity and restores the document classification.
Choose the right mode
Protection that fits the exchange.
Document exports offer four modes. Outlook attachment encryption offers Generic, PIN and Certificate.
| Mode | What it does | Who can open it |
|---|---|---|
| None | Packages a classified document with integrity verification and no content encryption. | Any ClassifyIt user, without a decryption secret. |
| Generic | Encrypts using ClassifyIt's built-in preshared certificate for convenient exchange. | Any ClassifyIt installation. This mode is not recipient-specific. |
| PIN | Encrypts content with password-based access. Share the PIN through a separate channel. | Recipients with the PIN and compatible ClassifyIt software. |
| Certificate | Encrypts for selected certificate holders and automatically includes the sender. | Holders of the corresponding private keys. |
Evaluating with freeware? Freeware exports signed, unencrypted CI-TDF containers regardless of the selected mode. Decryption of supported containers remains available. Request a licensed v7.0 evaluation to assess encryption.
Readable by people and systems
Your labels.
A consistent structure.
Keep local-language labels and organisation-specific release communities. iCLASS provides a compact representation for tools that inspect classification information, including mail gateways and DLP systems configured to understand it.
CI-TDF uses the P / U / O / R / C / S / T scale for its classification field. Map your organisational markings as part of deployment.

For administrators and information managers
A familiar deployment.
More control over the details.
- Keep policy central. Distribute a signed JSON configuration from a local path, network share or web location.
- Protect configuration integrity. v7.0 verifies configuration signatures against the trusted signer embedded in the add-in.
- Retain useful metadata. Document properties can accompany the content in a separate, integrity-checked metadata entry. These properties remain clear text, including for encrypted payloads.
- Put frequent markings within reach. Users can manage their Quick Select choices while working within the configured classification vocabulary.
Beta - Test environments
Word paragraph marking is available for controlled evaluation. It adds individual paragraph markings alongside the document classification and should remain disabled for production use.
Before you upgrade
A few practical answers.
Which Office applications does v7.0 support?
ClassifyIt integrates with Windows desktop Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. It requires the desktop COM add-in model; browser-based Office and the new Outlook for Windows are not deployment targets for this add-in. The download is for 64-bit Office. If you need a 32-bit version, contact support. Validate your exact Office build in a pilot.
Can I keep my existing classification scheme?
The visible labels and release markings remain configurable. Review your signed configuration for v7.0 and confirm the mapping to iCLASS codes for CI-TDF exports, particularly if your existing configuration uses custom classification codes.
What happens to older .cit files?
v7.0 does not decrypt legacy .cit files. Keep a compatible older installation and its original keys available for recovery. Decrypt the old files there, then export them to CI-TDF with v7.0. Verify migrated files before retiring the old environment.
Are there file-size limits?
CI-TDF processing supports stored payloads up to 256 MiB and restored documents up to 512 MiB. Smaller limits may apply to metadata, email delivery or your Office environment. Reduce or split larger documents before exporting.
Does CI-TDF require a remote key service?
The implemented modes use local certificates, the preshared Generic identity or a shared PIN. These workflows do not require a remote key-access service. CI-TDF is ClassifyIt's specific profile; compatibility with another TDF product should be tested rather than assumed.
